Mount of Olives College Kakiri is a private mixed secondary school in Kakiri, Wakiso District, Uganda, providing a holistic education within a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment.
Significance of the name: We chose the name Olives because the olive tree is a symbol of abundance, glory and peace. Despite harsh winters and burning summers, they continue to grow, proud and strong reaching towards the sky, bearing fruit that nourishes and heals. In the same vein, we hope our school will survive the challenges and hurdles faced by new schools just as the olive tree survives the harsh conditions. It is our hope that the school will bear fruit that will contribute to National development.
We are armed with innovation, insight and flexibility to give complete satisfaction to our esteemed clients. We are motivated by zealous ideas and well-tested theories in teaching and learning.
In MOCK every child is seen and heard; therefore, no single child is left behind, irrespective of their learning challenges. With its innovative academic programs that inspire each student to become the best version of themselves, our school sets the bar in delivery of quality education. Our academic monitoring techniques track every child's performance down to the smallest detail, enabling children who are falling behind to catch up and perform better.
Weekly Life’s Skills lessons are time-tabled for every class. Through these lessons students gain skills that enhance their inter-personal interactions as well as their leadership and decision-making abilities that will be very crucial later in life.
The school places great emphasis on developing a reading culture among students. In an era where digital distractions have eroded reading skills – skills that are critically needed in the new Artificial Intelligence - driven workplace, we are intentional about reversing this trend. To ensure the program's success, three periods, or lessons, are set aside as a reading hour for each class, and teachers submit monthly reports outlining students’ reading progress. Furthermore, every student is assigned a library card, which will soon be computerized and library usage is supervised and monitored weekly. Our library is fully stocked with magazines, newspapers, novels of various genres, and literary classics from the United Kingdom. Additionally, all necessary e-learning resources and textbooks are supplied.
The school has a wide array of activities to see to it that students are kept busy and well-rounded beyond academics. A professionally run annual Music, Dance and Drama event, with, out-sourced choreographers and judges in the second term of school year. Similarly, a sporting event involving a wide range of competitive sporting activities is organized in the first term of the school year. The school football team takes part in the district-level competitions, while our netball team competes at both District and Regional level.
In partnership with COSMES, the school has established a fully functional skilling unit intended to equip students with hands-on skills in different trades such as: Bakery, Fashion and Design, Hairdressing, Computer Programming, Rabbitry Keeping and Electronics Mechanic. The rigorous program is run on the weekends for students from senior one to senior three.
The school also has several clubs, providing the children with choice and opportunity. Learners can engage in many co-curricular activities including music band, chess, drama. After school, clubs such as Red Cross, Writers, MDD, Current Affairs, Legion of Mary, Xaverian to name but among others, keep the students occupied on alternate days of the week.
Every lesson taught must integrate more than one learning approach. Teachers carry either textbooks, videos, or both to enhance the learning experience of the learners. Through our own analysis, we have found out that learners attain higher grades/marks for subjects where teachers use technology and or visual aids.
A weekly spiritual program for the different Faiths is organized and facilitated by the school. The Moslem community is catered for every Friday with an Imam from the nearest community, whereas the Christians have prayers organized on Sundays with a lay leader and a Priest for the Anglicans and the Catholics respectively. Besides this the students have daily evening prayers before their prep as well as a mid-week Mass. During the special periods of the year, different Faiths follow devotional programs and the school endeavors to observe and provide for significant spiritual seasons such as Ramadhan and Lent and Easter.
